5 Ways to Reconcile Social Media and Mental Health

Some say social media contributes to the mental health crisis we are going through, while others tout the benefits of being so connected to resources and others. The research is so varied that it is no simple answer to the question to Know whether this type of media is harmful or beneficial for Well-being.  

We do know, however, that there are ways to use social media consciously. It is not necessarily their presence in our lives that affects our mental health, but rather how we use them.

  1. Stop following people or accounts that make you feel insecure or need to be someone else.

Accounts that inspire you and make you feel good about yourself. 

  • Set limits for the time you spend on social platforms.

Phones and apps allow you to monitor their usage time? For example, Instagram has a feature that lets you manage the time you spend there. You can even set a daily time limit and receive a reminder when it’s reached, so you don’t have your precious day to enjoy. Watching your feed. 

  • Actively participate in social media applications. 

Going aimlessly on Twitter can be a great way to distract yourself while waiting in line for coffee, but is it beneficial? And does that make you feel good? The next time you’re online, try to make real connections with others. In other words, send messages to friends and loved ones, the content comment you view and share relevant posts about what is going on in your life and others’ lives.

  • Join online communities.

One of the social media’s main assets is making it possible to connect with people from all over the world. Facebook groups are a prime example. Whether you are passionate about video games, gardening, or your cat, you will undoubtedly find what you need. Take the plunge and start trading! 

  • Be aware of the time and place.

Don’t let social media replace face-to-face dating in your life. Try to establish basic rules for places and times when you use them. An excellent place to start is to put screens to one side when spending time with people in the real world. Once you have built this habit, start thinking about other situations where you would like to be more present. By drawing a line with the digital world, you can ensure that you thoroughly enjoy other aspects of your life.
